What could be better on a hot day than a glass of chilled sangria? This drink of Spanish origin instantly evokes sunny terraces and long summer afternoons. This recipe will transport you to the bustling streets of Barcelona or the beaches of the Costa del Sol. Get ready to savor every sip and add a touch of freshness and conviviality to your summer days.

PREPARATION TIME: 20 MINUTES | COOKING TIME: 5 MINUTES | MACERATION TIME: 8 H | YIELD: 1.5L

INGREDIENTS: 

  • 500 ml (2 cups) orange juice
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, juice only
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) cognac
  • 1 bottle 750 ml (3 cups) red wine
  • 1 peach, thinly sliced
  • 1 green or red apple, unpeeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Ice cubes

PREPARATION: 

  • In a saucepan, bring the orange juice, orange slices, lemon juice, sugar and cognac to the boil. Simmer for approx. 1 minute. Let cool completely.
  • In a large pitcher, combine the wine, peach, apple and cinnamon with the orange mixture. Let macerate overnight. Strain if desired. Serve with fresh fruit and ice cubes.
